463 Schelp’s Piece

This is a custom made piece for my neighbor and friend, John Schelp. John is a local historian and has a passion for mill houses and spindles and pieces of Durham's past. He asked me to create a piece around this bit of antique porcelain that he got in the mill village of Glencoe, NC. I used 1920's bead board from a house on Englewood Ave in Durham as the background. It has a sweet antique green patina that goes well with the green in the porcelain and the marble. The porcelain sits on a rusty sawblade that still has some red, tying in with the red rose in the piece of plate. The frame is 1920's southern yellow pine lath from Club Bl in Durham.
